Airport Security

During the last decades, unprecedented events around the world have driven security to be number one priority in our everyday life, leading to the development of specified services for the airports’ security sector. Local and regional companies as 3D s.a. have contributed to this change combining exclusive knowledge with innovative ideas. This combination gives a high quality and liability to the company and offers the maximum of benefits to its customers.
3D s.a. specializes in airports’ security.

  • IMPORTANT PROJECTS
    • 2000 – 2004, Athens Airport, “Eleftherios Venizelos” (ICTS and Wackenhut joint venture contract)
      • Security screening of passengers and hand luggage (in association with Wackenhut and ICTS) at the Athens International Airport during 2000-2004)
    • 2006-2008, Thessaloniki Airport, “Makedonia”)
      • Screening of luggage at Thessaloniki International Airport for CAA (Civil Aviation Authority) from 2006 to 2008.
  • 3D s.a. actively participated in 3 Research and Technology EU programs under FP7.
    • TURBINE
      • TrUsted Revocable Biometric IdeNtitiEs (ICT-2007-216339), TURBINE was a research project awarded 6.3 Million Euro funding by the European Union under the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) for Research and Technology Development. The aim of the project was to develop innovative digital identity solutions, combining: secure, automatic user identification thanks to electronic fingerprint authentication and reliable protection of the biometrics data through advanced cryptography technology. Within the TURBINE project 3D s.a. worked along major players in biometrics and cryptography, including Sagem Sécurité, Philips Research Europe, Sagem Orga, Precise Biometrics in Sweden, Cryptolog and ARTTIC in France, as well as academic research groups from Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in Belgium and Gjøvik University College in Norway. Turbine technology has provided a major boost to the world of biometric research.
    • iDetecT4ALL Project (2008 – 2011)
      • Novel Intruder Detection & Authentication Optical Sensing Technology (SEC-2007-217872). iDetecT goal was to develop an innovative, Optical Intruder Sensing and Authentication technologies that will dramatically improve the Cost/Performance ratio of security systems, thus becoming an enabler for the widespread availability of reliable and affordable security, leading to more infrastructures being protected. http://www.idetect4all.com/ The project’s goal was to develop an innovative, Optical Intruder Sensing and Authentication technologies that will dramatically improve the Cost/Performance ratio of security systems, thus becoming an enabler for the widespread availability of reliable and affordable security, leading to more infrastructures being protected. Our company led WP1: Security Usage Cases, Metrics & Validation, Societal and Ethical Aspects. 3D SECURITY and the Visual Cognition Research Group (VICOREG) of the Department of Psychology of the University of Zurich worked together in order to improve efficiency and effectiveness in security screening. As an experienced end user and expert consultant in airport security, 3D s.a. coordinated the Usage Cases Analysis for all cases and the corresponding assessment reports. • SNIFFER Project 2012-2015 (No 285203)
      • Seventh Framework Program (FP7) for Research and Technology Development. The capture and analysis of odors offers significant potential for border security applications related to the detection and analysis of persons, illegal substances and in particular explosives. Dogs - the most effective "tool" for detecting and analyzing odors - can only be trained for a small sample of odors, get easily tired and are often perceived as intrusive by the public. The SNIFFER project ιs a highly innovative one-stop shop approach to complement dogs and leverage their capabilities. This approach is based on state-of-the-art technologies centred on a new generation of olfactory biosensors. The SNIFFER devices to be developed combine in a one-stop shop sampling, pre-concentration and pre-treatment with bio-mimicry, synthetic diamond sensor technology and multi-parametric training software. This will enable the detection of odours arising out of security threats which may occur in a panel of border security applications. This flexible technology allows users to continuously keep improving the "olfactory scope" of their "artificial sniffers" quickly and at low additional cost, even once they have been deployed. This concept results from a multidisciplinary collaboration of several years between research teams from Italy, the UK, France and Switzerland. Users involved in the SNIFFER project will provide a representative set of usage cases, all related to border control security in the large sense - such as the detection of illegal substances carried by people and in suitcases (open or on a luggage belt) and cars or the detection of hidden people in containers. EADS, the integrator partner will build dedicated systems for these usage cases to allow for a comprehensive assessment in view of progressively improving the technology. The project will hence open the road towards a promising market place for "artificial sniffing" centered border security solutions and for olfactory applications in general.
